The Music of Erik David

  • Heretic  ( 4 items )

Heretic is the latest collection of Erik David songs produced for his Master of Divinity degree.

Four songs recount the lives and personalities of four critical Christian heretics from the fourth century through the radical reformation:

    • Arius
    • Martin Luther
    • Michael Servetus
    • John Calvin

  • Ecotheological Aesthetics  ( 8 items )

The Ecotheological Aesthetics collection arose from a class Erik took at the Meadville Lombard Theological School in the Fall of 2006. Entitled Ecotheological Ethics, the course, taught by Meadville's Associate Professor of Theology Dr. Mike Hogue, explored the current ecological crisis from an ethical and theological perspective.

The course featured books by five authors, and for his final project, Erik produced a short album, one song based on each author whose work was included in the class as well as his own research on the topic.

The authors and their works were:

    • Hans Jonas : The Phenomenon of Life and The Imperitive of Responsibility
    • James M. Gustafson : Ethics from a Theocentric Perspective, Vols 1 and 2
    • Albert Borgmann : Power Failure
    • HG Wells : The Island of Doctor Moreau
    • Donna Haraway : Simians, Cyborgs, and Women

Please browse this section of ErikDavid.com to listen to the album and to read Erik's commentary on each of the authors and the songs they inspired.

  • Love Songs  ( 9 items )
Erik's songs dedicated to the pain and joy of love. Ranging from the year 2000 to present day, Erik has, as have many artists, found great inspiration in their relationships. This section is dedicated to all of those who have found and lost love, only to find it again.
  • Social Justice and Ministry  ( 5 items )

Erik David has also gleaned great inspiration from world events. An avid pacificist, Erik has spoken out publically against the Iraq war since its beginnings and many of his songs pay tribute to those who work for Peace all over the world.   Erik is also influenced by his experience as a student of ministry and some of his latest songs reflect this perspective.

  • Electric  ( 2 items )
A collection of rock, blues and funk pieces in Erik's repertoire.
